Cherry Blossoms – 2021

March 27, 2021

It appears that we have chosen the perfect time to return home to DC/Northern Virginia from across the country. We made it here a couple of weeks ago to wonderful weather, and now, we get to take part in one of our favorite annual traditions – seeing the cherry blossoms at Tidal Basin in downtown DC.

The weather was just perfect to take a spontaneous trip to DC to take in the beauty of these gorgeous blossoms! The city was crowded but not as packed as it usually is during this time. I am grateful that the National Park Services didn’t shut it down! They did, however, shut down our usual parking lot, which then left us driving around trying to find a spot for a while. Finally, Aaron dropped us off and set out to find a parking spot on his own.

In the meantime, I had all three kids with me, and I maneuvered the crowds around Tidal Basin, found a place to sit, enjoyed some snacks, and had a chance to take some pictures, as well!

I was excited to be back in the city I love and to be around all my favorite spots – Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and more. It has been a long time since I have been downtown and walked around! Making a goal right now to not wait too long before coming back to enjoy these places again! We walked a little further down on Independence Avenue and I let the kids run around and play for a while.

I have always said this – God is an artist! The blooms are incredibly beautiful and bring so much joy to so many! It was wonderful to see all of the cherry trees in full bloom, walking through them and experiencing the beauty firsthand. The joy it brought me was watching my children enjoy nature and be surrounded by some iconic monuments. My heart rejoiced for the blessing it is to be back here and I vow to not take anything for granted again 🙂

I hope to come back more often to the city, with and without my kids, and feel rejuvenated by all the rich history and architecture that exists in Washington, DC. In the meantime, my kids make every present moment count.
