Our date night could not have been any better! A steaming bowl of Pho for dinner, a crackling fire in our fireplace (read more to find out about our adventure with this part), curled up on a comfy mattress with lots of pillows and blankets, and the BBC version of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield. That is what I call a perfect date night!
The Pho (Vietnamese soup) was delicious as always, and Ben Kacher joined us for dinner. It was fun to catch up with him after a while, and the conversation almost always includes politics. After a good time at dinner, Ben left, and we returned home. The night was quite chilly and Aaron had this brilliant idea to light a fire in our fireplace that we had not done before. I was furiously researching while Aaron was ignoring me and putting his Eagle Scout skills to use. It was our first fire in our own fireplace and I just had the fireplace cleaned a few weeks ago.
It burned beautifully but not before the draft had pushed all the smoke back into the house, and we learned that our smoke detectors on ALL floors worked really well. Ah well, some adventure on a date is not a bad thing 🙂 Once we had that situation under control, Aaron continued to build us a grand fire. It was a sight to behold—glowing embers, heat emanating from the fire, crackling and popping, and the two of us, cuddled up by the fire with our banana bread and a glass of milk. So romantic! (I know, I am so easy to please.)
For our viewing pleasure, we decided on the much-loved Dickens classic – David Copperfield. I remember reading this when I was eight years old and then again, when I was ten years old. It has always been one of my favorites. When BBC brought together these incredible actors to create a Dickens favorite—I had to own a copy! Maggie Smith, Daniel Radcliffe, Alun Armstrong, Pauline Quirke, Ian McKellan, Trevor Eve, Harry Lloyd, Bob Hoskins, Imelda Staunton, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Dawn French, and Ciaran McMenamin weave onscreen magic to bring to life this near-autobiographical novel by Charles Dickens. Each character is so beloved and quirky in their own way and is both written and acted with incredible emotion.
It was a wonderful date night and if you are ever in the mood for a great movie/TV series, give this one a try. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
