Fire + Food + Friends

March 25, 2019

The weather has been teasing us all week long with a couple of 70+ degree days, two days of pouring rain and some cold ones thrown in, for good measure. But, today, was just right. A bit crisp but not enough for a jacket, and the perfect evening to spend with friends and a fire.

We invited our dear friends, Corey + Eileen Astill, who were some of our first friends when we moved into our ward. In fact, their youngest one and Grace and only two weeks apart, and they have known each other all their lives. They still get so excited to hang out together. Cute! We just love the Astills and it was a blast that they could come over!

Aaron loves being outdoors. That is putting it mildly 😉 He even has a t-shirt that says, “I’d Rather Be Outside”. To be fair, I bought it for him but it could easily be his mantra. He also enjoys having friends over to BBQ and then have s’mores. The s’mores bit has become a recent thing for him ever since we moved in this home. He will build a fire even when there is snow on the ground, and invite friends over for some s’mores. I must say, that our backyard is a dream come true and begs to be shared. So, we give in. Often. Our friends love it!

Aaron grilled some burgers and hotdogs, and I made a simple and yummy fruit salad – mostly berries and grapes and a delicious creamy vanilla dressing. The kids ate and played and threw a football and ran all around the place. The grown ups chilled and ate, and handled slightly cranky babies as it grew closer to bedtime. Yes, my kids still go to bed by 6:30-7:00pm even when it is bright outside. I need to reclaim my sanity to be prepared for the shenanigans that we sure to follow the next day.

Oh, and those two boys in white shirts – our friendly, neighborhood (ward) missionaries. We invited them over to join us as well when we heard that their dinner appointment fell through. They were our designated s’mores makers and did it so graciously.

We feel extremely blessed and grateful to have this lovely home and beautiful backyard to live in and share with out friends. We have entertained quite a bit more since moving in, and it is fun to have others love our home as much as we do and bring their love and energy and friendship to share with us all.

It was a wonderful evening and just what a perfect Sunday evening should be.
