If there is a way to welcome a new year, it is most certainly not the way I did – sick with a clingy cough, cold, body aches and feeling like I should be tested for strep. Yay me. But, you know, despite the way I was feeling, it turned out to be a fairly good day.
- Since I had to drive myself to the CVS Minute Clinic to get a strep test and some medication, I couldn’t very well go out in public looking like death warmed over. Enter shower and makeup for the win! Honestly, in this frigid weather, nothing could be really warmed over if it tried. But, it made me feel a bit human and for that, I was grateful.
2. We actually managed to have Family Home Evening! On a Monday night! With Gracie! That should warrant an entire blog post all on its own but I will save you the torture 😉 One of my goals this year is to have FHE every week for 52 weeks. So, it felt great to start out the year on a positive note. The topic was The Temple. One of the best things I did was to bring back a Family Home Evening Board from my recent trip to Utah. For some reason, it made all the difference. Gracie was thrilled to hear what came next and she got to choose who said the prayer and what song we would sing (I love to see the temple). See the video below for the cuteness of the daddy-daughter performance of that song 🙂
3. We ended the day with Audrey being her usual happy self. Except she was supposed to be fast asleep. She thought otherwise and we didn’t argue with her. She is already getting away with too much!
As mundane as this day sounds, it was actually perfectly aligned with what I have in mind for this year. Slow down. Be Present. Enjoy the moments with my family. Create memories. That is exactly how it all turned out. I am going to knock myself out with some cold-killing drugs and hope that Day 2 of 2018 will find me physically better and mentally peaceful.
