We had barely entered the gardens, when we were greeted by several dragonflies, just hovering around, seemingly unfazed by humans, and forming what seemed to be a welcoming committee, of sorts. They just hung around, literally, long enough for me to take a couple of photos. I almost started to name them. OK, I did name them. I tend to do this often, when I am out exploring. See what I named a lovely cow on our trip to Sky Meadows State Park.
This one is Black Hawk.
This one’s name was Paperback.
I, then, stumbled upon this flower with its curious yellow center, and thought to myself that it must be how they tag the flowers to track them for things. But, no.
It is actually a part of the flower. A vital part.
We found these flowers in various stages of bloom. They seemed so graceful, just leaning in the short bursts of breeze (we could have used some more breeze due to the scorching heat at 10:00am!), with their delicate petals in various shades of white and pink. It was a sight to behold—large ponds filled with lilies and lotuses, with the largest pads (leaves) I had every seen! I felt I could easily be Thumbelina here!
These pure white flowers rose from the black murky waters to shine like jewels in the sun.
I felt like we were shining like jewels in the sun, too. Actually, it was large beads of sweat on our foreheads that made it seem so. It was HOT!! And, we were not the only ones trying to find some shade! I think this little guy had the right idea.
Sharing time. Looks like this was a popular flower!
This dragonfly was named Blue Ballerina.
The best things happen in threes. Or, so I’ve heard. Either way, these three flowers were gorgeous! Hope you had a fun trip around the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Lucky you, you did it without having to endure the heat, so that alone is a great thing 😀
