I had been wanting to go to The Museum of the Bible ever since it opened. We finally had the chance to go and I jumped at the stars aligning and making it possible. I was worried that the kids would be bored but, on the contrary, they loved it. Bonus is that we are learning about the Old Testament in church for Come Follow Me this year, and this is THE perfect place to visit and learn more.
This is how the website describes this place: “Museum of the Bible is a global, innovative, educational institution whose purpose is to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible.” It is seriously an incredible place to explore and I could spend days doing just that. The architecture was beautiful, the exhibits were immersive and engaging, and it was so well-thought out and educational every step of the way.
This is the entrance to the museum floors after you get past the ticket counters. Already intrigued!
Once you go through the amazing arches, you can either take the stairs or the elevators to access the exhibits. It was the second day of January, so all the Christmas accoutrements were still up, and the kids were thrilled. So, of course, they took to the stairs 🙂
On one of the floors was a replica of an entire city – Nazareth – during Biblical times. We loved walking through the streets, looking into the different homes, seeing the pasture, and the vineyards. The kids are in the middle of the town where the townspeople come to fill their vessels with water. A plaque nearby reads: “Water: The Bible is saturated with references to water as the source of life. Unlike the deadly arid areas farther away from the Mediterranean Sea, Nazareth enjoyed Galilee’s natural springs, which kept their wells from running dry. Families walked to the community well daily to draw water. But this chore was not all hard work. The well became the social hub of the community, allowing people to visit with neighbors and travelers.”
Here, they are watching the sheep and the lambs. There were realistic sounds being played over the speakers and the kids loved it and kept coming back to this spot, haha.
We were all eager to learn and see and experience it all. The attention to detail and accuracy in representing the times was spectacular. The kids were learning a lot and so were we!
Once we were done exploring this floor, the kids wanted to go to the ground floor where there was a huge kids section with mazes and games and interactive exhibits. Aaron graciously took the kids there while I stayed behind to explore a little on my own. I acknowledge I would need months to take in all the information and explore every detail! I made my way up one floor to the History of the Bible exhibit. It was impressive! And, that is mildly put. It was filled with information, artifacts, documentaries, maps, and photographs.
We had a great time at the Museum of the Bible and would gladly visit again!
