I wake up and think:
Today, I am going to clean the house, make some bread, do some research on my business, finish the spreadsheet I had started, sort out some pictures on Picasa, and maybe even read a book, and go for a run. All great things and I should be able to get all of this done today.
This is how that day turned out:
I woke up after hitting snooze a few times, scrambled to get my husband ready for work; dropped him off at the Metro, came home turned on my computer, still dressed in the sweats I had on, sat down to check my emails, and before I knew it, it was noon, and I had not moved from my laptop!!!! Arrrghhh! I had so things to get done, and even some things that I love to do – like reading and sorting pictures (I know, I love taking and sorting and editing pictures), and now, I can’t get it all done, because I spent MORE TIME THINKING and LESS TIME DOING!
Do you find yourself in similar situations? Do you have the best of intentions that turn into the beginning of a guilt cycle – you feel guilty that you did not do what you told yourself you were going to do; that guilt leads you to think that you should not set goals for yourself because you don’t want to feel bad if you don’t achieve those goals, which in turn leads to procrastination? See, I am again, thinking too much!
Yesterday, while I was in my browsing mode, I realized that there was ONE thing I could DO that would prevent me from sinking into my cycle of guilt. If I did NOT TURN ON my computer until I got dressed for the day, I could have a third of my tasks completed already!! Wake up, go for a run, take a shower, get dressed, meditate/pray, have breakfast, drop off my hubby at the Metro, and THEN turn on the computer!!!!
(when I am MOVING, these are some of the things I get to see and appreciate!)
As I was in the mode of discovery, I read one of the fun blogs I follow (http://www.agorgeouslife.com/ ) and guess what?? The blog post was about the exact same thing that I had been musing about for the past hour or so!
And I could not have said it better, so check out her post at:

Wasn’t that a great way to motivate yourself? Thanks, Maaike, for the honest blog entry about procrastination and a way to kick yourself out of it!
Seriously, it is not as hard as you think to kick the habit of procrastination. Once you STOP THINKING and START MOVING, you will find that you actually LIKE moving, and will want to get another thing checked off your list, and feel motivated to do another and another. Like Beyonce says: Move Ya Body!
Oh yeah, and don’t forget to reward yourself, too! (C’mon, it can’t be all work and no play :))
Hi there! Thanks for mentioning my blog 😀
And I love the idea of not turning on my laptop until I'm all up and dressed 🙂
By the way, I have a tree in my front garden that blossoms exactly like the one in your picture! Gorgeous!
Have a great day 🙂
