Terrific Tuesday

April 19, 2011

The reason it is so terrific is because I started out with a plan. I know, so simple, right? Having worked for a training organization before, this part seems to be embedded in me. Now I am not saying that I always do everything I plan to do, but it gives me a map of things I need/would like to get to done on any particular day. Knowing that I had to shake off the “sitting blues” – where I plant myself in front of the computer, with all the intentions of being productive, only to find that the day has whizzed past me, and I am left scrambling to get stuff done before my husband comes home :), I decided that last night, I would plan out what my day would look like today.

Yep, that’s right – it is my trusty Franklin Planner. I have used a Franklin Planner since 1998 and have never looked back. I love how it fits my lifestyle and my brain thinks the way it is designed. Anyway, I made a plan last night and these are all the things I have been able to accomplish since I woke up this morning:

1. Read my scriptures – the final week of Jesus Christ to prepare for Easter
2. Had breakfast – big deal because I am a bad breakfast eater.
3. Took my husband to the Metro.
4. Read the manual for my oven to figure out how to use the self-cleaning operation. Got that started without a hitch and it was timed for a 3-hour cleaning.
5. While the oven was cleaning, I took out all the stuff from the bathroom and gave it a deep cleaning/scrub down and it is now gleaming!
6. I sorted through my under-the-bed storage of gym clothes, and made a big pile of clothes and shoes to  box up for Goodwill.
7. Browsed through a stack of old journals, deciding which ones to scan in, and which ones to get rid of (mostly ones where I have only used about 30 pages and then moved onto a different journal to start anew.)
8. Cleaned up the dining area and dusted.
9. Wiped down the stove – it is now shiny!
10. Posted a blog entry (this one)!!

And all of these tasks were completed by 2:00pm including eating lunch, and accompanied by the acoustic pleasure of Pandora – 60’s/70’s and 80’s Hits!!! See how much you can get done if you just write down your plan?? It makes a big difference in being productive and there is nothing better than checking off your task list at the end of the day. (sometimes even during the day, just to see those check marks. )

Oh man! I'm jealous! Although I really do live by my planner. If I didn't have it things would get a little crazy in our house. 🙂

Ah, Chels! I wish I could say I am this disciplined every day, but sadly that is not the case 🙂 However, on the days when I do get a lot accomplished, it makes me feel great! There is something to be said about planning, preparing and accomplishing a task. I can totally relate to the craziness in the house if there was no planner!

Very true! Some people are able to sort things out in their minds. I know one or two, but most people need a plan to fulfill a purpose and to be effective and productive 🙂

Nas, I agree. I can envision things in my mind, but I do feel really fulfilled when I had made a plan in writing and accomplished it. Besides, I don;t have to work so hard trying to remember everything I am supposed to do 🙂
