Last Monday, after a dismal, rainy, cold week before, it turned out to be a gorgeous, sunny day. After spending the morning in the house, working on things, I could not take it any longer and decided that I was going to take advantage of the solitary, sunny day we might have that week. So, I jumped up and got dressed up in a jiffy, grabbed my camera bag, some snacks and a light sweater, and drove over to see these famous cherry blossoms around Tidal Basin. Apparently, a few other people had the same idea, which makes me wonder, how many people actually work in DC, because when the sun is out, so are throngs of locals 🙂 I love it!
It only took me 10 minutes to get there and find a parking place. I parked at the Gold Course and armed with my camera bag and iPhone, I started off to explore. The destination was the Jefferson Memorial, as I had never visited it before. I walked out of the parking lot, looked to my left and saw the Washington monument. Took a picture of it, and for some reason, started off in the opposite direction, along the water. I went around the bend in the road and was amazed to see the gorgeous cherry blossoms, white and fluffy, pink and pretty, just ethereal-looking and it seemed for a moment, that I was in heaven.
I looked around and saw this: two cute kids; the brother looked like he was marching through the trees, swinging his arms, and the sister, not to be outdone, followed her brother, only with more exaggerated movements, and they were walking at a fast pace. The parents, with a toddler, were hurrying to keep up with these two ‘soldiers’.
I started to trot/walk around the Tidal Basin. It was so beautiful – the blue of the water contrasting with the green of the grass and the lovely, white and pink blossoms bringing to everything a magical feeling. I kept walking and came across a couple of old men sitting on a bench, talking and a little further up, their two fishing poles were leaning against the railing, just waiting for a fish to swim by.
This little girl found endless entertainment under this beautiful, willow tree. She had her mother pick up the strands of the willow, and then let it swing by her face, so she could catch it and laugh at her little sister. It was so cute to watch.

It looked like the little girl was having too much fun under this willow tree, that I had to find out for myself. I guess it is safe to say, I still have the childish curiosity for life 🙂 So this was my view from under the swaying branches and it was not bad at all. 😀
Isn’t this such a sweet picture?
Hope you enjoyed the Tidal Basin trot! It was so fun to walk around for hours and take in all of nature’s bounteous beauty.
